Let Akaroa Dolphins take you on a journey of discovery through millions of years of fascinating history and natural heritage in beautiful Akaroa. Your hosts Pip and Hugh Waghorn and crew look forward to hosting you aboard their stylish catamaran for the cruise of a lifetime around Akaroa Harbour.
The beautifully appointed vessel, Akaroa Dolphin, offers a small number of guests an intimate cruise experience. The vessel is fast, stable and manoeuvrable allowing you to visit the spectacular sea caves, volcanic formations, high cliffs and bird nesting sites both within Akaroa Harbour and beyond the entrance into the Pacific Ocean. A comprehensive commentary on geology, history, ecology and Maori heritage and traditions is included.
Akaroa Harbour is host to amazing bird life and sea mammals, including the world’s rarest and smallest dolphin, the friendly Hector’s dolphin, which you’ll undoubtedly experience on your cruise. The rear viewing platform on Akaroa Dolphin is close to sea level providing you with the opportunity to get really close to the playful dolphins.
You’ll also see fur seals sunbathing on the rocks, little blue penguins, marine salmon and paua pearl farms and a variety of fascinating sea birds including five species of cormorant, black-backed gulls, red-billed gulls, shearwaters, terns, prions, mollymawks, petrels, skuas, oystercatchers, albatross and more.
Akaroa Harbour is one of two large harbours which make up Banks Peninsula in the scenic South Island of New Zealand. A cruise with Akaroa Dolphins is the ideal way to enjoy this beautiful place.
