Alpine Kayak Guides, offer fun, scenic and safe kayaking trips on local Wanaka Rivers from October to April. Experience first hand the thrill of kayaking from a relaxed introduction to a full-on day of paddling. Alpine Kayak Guides can give you what you want. Their experienced guides will show you the wonders of this spectacular region and you will come away with an experience that is altogether unforgettable.

The Wanaka region has a superb range of rivers, from the mighty Clutha (New Zealand's largest volume river), the Hawea and the Makarora rivers, to the majestic glacial fed Matukituki river. The best river is chosen each day to maximise your paddling experience.

Alpine Kayak Guides offer a range of white water kayaking trips on Grade 2 rivers in the Wanaka region. They supply all the necessary equipment and instruction from qualified guides for an enjoyable day of learning and adventure.

Clutha Classic approx 4 hours
This is a great trip for everyone - even first timers! Take in the awesome views and get to run some thrilling Grade 2 rapids. Great for those with only a limited time but still want to feel the thrill of getting into kayaking. Minimum age is 14 years.

Big Day Out full day
This trip offers 23 Km of spectacular scenery, mountain views and crystal clear rivers. We provide the lunch. Give yourself a day to remember on this awesome stretch of river. Minimum age is 14 years.

Grand View approx 4.5 hours
This river trip goes from the Outlet of Lake Wanaka to the Poplars and is 13kms of gently winding, mainly flat river. People can choose to use standard or sit upon kayaks. Minimum age is 8 years.

WATER CONFIDENCE IS ESSENTIAL. No previous kayaking experience is required for all the trips.

All departures are accompanied by one guide per six kayakers. Each trip includes necessary tuition appropriate to river conditions. Safety equipment, clothing and kayak are included with each trip. Kayak trips include transport to and from Wanaka to selected rivers. Alpine Kayak Guides reserves the right to select the daily river venue, taking into account weather, river conditions, client ability and numbers .
