Auckland Zoo is located just west of Downtown Auckland in beautiful Western Springs Reserve.

The Auckland Zoo is broken into different regions below are just a few to give you an idea of what you will see...

Pridelands - Take a stroll through African Grasslands past authentic Zulu huts to meet the King of the Savannah, the lions, as they observe you from their grassy outlook. Watch the graceful movement of the giraffe from the elevated board walk and gaze across to the zebra, rhino and springbok quietly grazing together as they would in the wild.

Hippo River - Africa's marshy wetlands where hippos move steadily across the river-way or wallow deep in mud baths along the riverbank. Across the pathway baboons clamber around their tree-covered hilltop.

NewstalkZB Rainforest - Enter the lush tranquility of a South American Rainforest, where monkeys swing just an arm's length away. Here you will see cute Spider Monkeys, Cotton-Topped Tamarins, Bonnet Macaques, and the not-so-cute Tarantulas (don't worry they are behind glass arachnophobics!)

For those who want to eat at the zoo, there are several options:

Bring along a hamper and enjoy one of our many picnic sites throughout the zoo.

Darwin's café, a licensed cafe, is open from 9.30am - 5pm every day except Christmas Day when the Zoo is closed. Darwin's caters for both adults and children with a comprehensive range of hot and cold food, including themed kids' picnic boxes.

Beside Darwin's café is Penguins, a fast food outlet, which sells a range of takeaway products including ice creams, drinks and hot chips.

Lion's Larder, a kiosk, is located in the heart of Pridelands and just alongside the Elephant exhibit area, and sells a range of hot and cold food and drinks. It is open at busy times.

Auckland Zoo is open every day (excluding Christmas Day) from 9.30am - 5.30pm (last admissions at 4.15pm)
