Learn in easy progression to knee board, wakeboard or water ski with AWSAM Watersports (Auckland Water Sports Academy Maraetai). Travel in convoy in one of our 3 high powered jet boats along the stunning Pohutukawa Coast, or go across to Waiheke, Rakino and Pakihi Islands. AWSAM Watersports offers quality accommodation in 2 homes close to the water. Both have gyms with sauna, spa pools.

When tide and/or conditions don’t suit water activities, go mountain biking in the local forest or try your hand at kite flying and/or buggying along a local sandspit. In the event of adverse weather, alternative forms of extreme activities such as paintball, indoor rock climbing or indoor go-karting will be available.

WATER SKIING is the more traditional form of the sport and AWSAM has a top NZ coach to help those wanting to take this route. It has to be said that when performed at expert level, water skiing is an amazing discipline and can lead to trick skis and even barefooting which requires speeds of 75kph and more to achieve. The learning curve for skis is similar to wakeboarding insofar as you start on the kneeboard then go on to 2 skis before dropping one and going mono!

WAKEBOARD HERO! If you intend progressing in wakeboarding or intend to switch to kite boarding you will need to get a good grounding of basic moves such as toeside and heelside edging and also getting air off the wake. Nonetheless, as the Chinese saying goes, the longest journey begins with the first step, so make it easy for yourself and sign up with AWSAM!

SEA BISCUIT At the end of each water sport session, we will take you for a thrilling ride on a sea biscuit just to emphasise that this course is about having fun!

Five day live-in course (Breakfast & dinner included)
All equipment supplied. Course starts 6.30pm Sunday nights and finishes 5.00pm Friday at downtown Auckland.

Weekend Activities
Day trip to Waiheke Channel or Pakihi Island for wakeboarding, waterskiing, sea biscuits etc. Bring own lunch and warm jacket, no alcohol permitted. Wetsuits, lifejackets provided.
