Beginning in the historic seaside village of Akaroa, New Zealand is the Banks Peninsula Track. New Zealand's premier private track prides itself on being an excellent eco-tourism experience, providing a diversity of wildlife, scenery and hospitality. The unique tramp across farmland and Hinewai reserve covers 35 km of spectacular volcanic coastline, native bush, waterfalls and sandy beaches. Each night's cosy accommodation reflects the character, history and individuality of the families who live nearby.
The track can be done in two days or four days.
Two Day
The two day option completes the full track in just two sections. Recommended for those with a higher level of fitness. Very popular with backpackers and weekend trampers.
1. First night: Onuku Farm Trampers Hut
2. Second night: Stony Bay Cottage
Four Day
The four day track is completed in 4 sections. More of a holiday than the two day track, the relaxed pace gives plenty of time for bird watching, swimming, sunbathing, fishing, reading, beach-combing...
1. First night: Onuku Farm Trampers Hut
2. Second night: Flea Bay Cottage
3. Third night: Stony Bay Cottage
4. Fourth night: Otanerito Beach Farmhouse
The Banks Peninsula Track is open through the Spring and Summer every year from : October 1 to April 30 inclusive
