Riding the Christchurch Gondola is a spectacular experience that is enjoyed by visitors to the city and locals.

The 945 metre Gondola ride gently lifts visitors, in the comfort of 4 person passenger cabins, almost 500 metres (1500 feet) above sea level. Unique 360 degree views of Christchurch, the Canterbury Plains and Lyttelton Harbour unfold as you rise to the summit complex, on the crater rim of Christchurch's famous extinct volcano.

Riding the Gondola is the affordable way to see Christchurch. It's a great place to take family, friends and visitors.

The Heritage Time Tunnel located in the Gondola's Top Station lets visitors travel back in time. Discover the fascinating history and geological evolution of the Banks Peninsula region. Be amazed by volcanic eruptions, Maori mythology, and life on board an early settlers' ship.

The Summit Café offers a complete range of snacks, casual meals and refreshments. Enjoy a cappuccino, latté, your choice of specialty coffee or a tipple from our range of wines, beers and spirits. Pinnacle, The Gondola Restaurant offers fantastic dining, using the best of Canterbury ingredients, which diners take in the extensive ever-changing panoramic views over Christchurch, Lyttelton and Banks Peninsula.

The Christchurch Gondola Base Station is located in the Heathcote Valley, just 15 minutes drive from downtown Christchurch. There is plenty of free parking for cars, motorhomes and coaches. Or catch the City Bus services - No. 28 Lyttelton bus departs from outside the Colombo Street Bus Exchange, opposite Ballantynes. No. 35 Heathcote bus departs from inside the Bus Exchange on Colombo Street. Both depart every 15 minutes and offer a 2 hour return ticket.
