A visit to Classic Flyers NZ is a journey through New Zealand’s aviation history, and a fascinating way to spend a few hours. Classic Flyers NZ was created "by the public for the public" and is a not-for-profit business, so each time you visit us you are doing your part in preserving these beautiful aircraft and thousands of pieces of aviation history.

Some of the classic flyers on display include:

Fletcher FU24 300
The rather unglamorous American-designed Fletcher agricultural top-dresser was first flown in 1954. It was built in New Zealand to meet the needs of our farming communities and difficult countryside and has been a tremendous success, with 297 aircraft being built by Pacific Aerospace in Hamilton.

Spitfire
The Spitfire on display is a full size replica Mk. V which was located on a visit to Australia. The aircraft was dismantled, packed into a container and shipped here where it was carefully re-assembled and painted in a nearby hangar.

Hawker Hunter T75
Surely the most beautiful jet fighter ever built, the Hunter was a massive success worldwide and its representation at our Museum is a great coup for the team who achieved it.

Do you want to get airborne? There are several options:

Take a flight in the Boeing Stearman WWII open cockpit biplane.
Feel the wind in your face as you fly over Tauranga in an open cockpit reliving the true excitement of flight. This aircraft is based at Classic Flyers and can be booked any day of the week weather permitting, contact Classic Flyers today.

See a piece of New Zealand air force history, the CT4B Air Trainer.
These aircraft were built by P.A.C. in Hamilton and were used by the Royal New Zealand Airforce both as a trainer and with the Red Checkers aerobatics team.

Calling all M.A.S.H. fans, go for a ride in a Bell 47 helicopter.
The Bell helicopter operates from Tauranga Airport, these were first used as medivac machines during the Korean War.

As well as a dynamic array of classic aircraft, including many that still take to the skies on a regular basis, we have a great collection of models, including a ½ scale precise replica of a Focke Wulf 190!

Classic Flyers also has a large showcase of historic memorabilia, featuring military aviation weapons, flight suits, helmets, rare aircraft parts and much more. We have several large photographic displays which have fascinating stories to tell. We have an excellent collection of replicas and models (including some vintage models dating back to the 1960’s) and a comprehensive aviation library with some extremely rare and valuable titles.
