Welcome to the Goldmine Experience in Thames, New Zealand. The guided tour takes you through an operational, 19th century Stamper Battery & into one of the richest goldmines of the time.

A self-guided tour allows you to explore the photographic museum, view a video presentation, discover mining relics, see steam-powered machines, & become acquainted with our Cave Weta colony.

Try your luck at gold panning!

Goldmine Experience provides a unique hands-on learning experience. A genuine resource from which a broad range of topics can be discovered: mining history, 19th century engineering development, mining chemistry, minerology, power generation, geology, pioneering New Zealand, and early local history.

Allow at least 40 minutes for your visit. Snacks and cold drinks for sale on site, toilet facilities available, bus & car parking, postcards and gold for sale, and a nice picnic area.

Daily 10am - 4 pm (Closed Christmas Day).
