Natureland Zoo, situated at Tahunanui Beach provides an excellent recreational facility for the people of Nelson and it's visitors.
It is also and important educational facility for the region, where children have the opportunity to see and learn about both exotic and New Zealand native species.
These experiences motivate NZ children to care for the enviroment and this is especially important as they will be the caretakers of our precious biodiversity in the future.
Check out our New Zealand Natives like the Kea, tui, kakariki, tuatara, gecko, skinks, as well as a variety of exotic birds, monkeys, otters and farm yard animals.
Open Daily 9am to 3:45pm

Comments / Reviews of Natureland Zoo
We went to Natureland on Saturday with our friend's one and a half year old and had a blast. Young kids really love feeding all the animals and there was plenty to see. There was all manner of birds and the aviary is great. The otters were hilarious and so were the monkeys. The lambs and goats were very friendly, as were the pigs. The entry price was just $5 for an adult and free for kids under 2 so very reasonable and there is a small play area for the kids there too. The bags of feed were only $1.50 too! We spent almost 2 hours there and I have to recommend Natureland to all those with kids who like animals.
Natureland has been saved by Orana Wildlife Trust! In fact, Natureland stands to become a bigger, smarter zoo with a larger range of native and exotic animals, and more staff to run it.
Natureland stays open, for now at least!
Natureland will stay open for a few more months, after debate over whether to close it as planned on Monday swung back and forth among city councillors at Thursday's full council meeting.A decision was made to delay Natureland's closure and to extend the lease to the Abel Tasman Gateway Trust until July 4.
The Tahunanui institution, Natureland, which has brought joy to thousands of children and families for 42 years, will shut the gate for the last time on March 31 2008, the Nelson City Council announced Friday.
