Rising to nearly 2000 metres, Porter Heights offers spectacular views of the Southern Alpes with Lake Coleridge sparkling below. Good natural snow, regular snowmaking and extensive grooming ensure the terrain is always in top condition. There are gentle slopes for beginners, cruising runs and trails for intermediates, legendary challanges for advanced like Big Mama & Bluff Face. Big Mama with 620 vertical metres and is longest and steepest straight run down in the Southern Hemisphere.

Snow ratings are 20% beginner, 40% intermediate and 40% advanced. Lifts comprise 3 T-Bars, 1 platter and 1 grip tow.

In the rental department you find the latest models of carving skis and snowboards as well as comfortable boots. Fully qualified instructors ensure that you learn the easy way. Our professional Ski Patrol is there to help and assist throughout the day. Have a gourmet lunch in our licensed cafeteria and enjoy the view from the deck.

Kids under ten ski for free, there are beginner's packages for skiers and boarders as well as family packages.

Porter Heights Alpine Lodge is situated just 5 minutes below the ski area car park. It is a modern complex with 42 beds and its own resident manager/ chef. Dinner/Bed/Breakfast is provided during the ski season. Facilities include a canteen, licensed bar, guest lounge, games room, drying room, laundry, ski tuning room and storage, with adjacent car park.

Porter Heights is the closest ski are to Christchurch, only 96km from Christchurch International Airport, which is about a one hour drive from the Garden City. A scenic drive on the West Coast Highway (SH73) takes you through Darfield, Springfield, over Porter’s Pass and past Lake Lyndon to the ski area turnoff, where a short, easy road takes you to plenty of parking right by the slopes.
