Snowplanet brings an extraordinary winterworld experience to Auckland where young and old can enjoy the thrill of snowsports and the relaxed atmosphere of a complete snow village.

Snowplanet is New Zealand's first and only all-year indoor snow resort where Aucklanders and tourists alike can experience the thrill of snowsports and atmosphere of a snow village close to Auckland. Snowplanet's giant snowhall features 50 centimetres of real powder snow, three lifts, a terrain park for snowboarders and separate learner area, for a fun day out irrespective of Auckland's weather. The Mountain View Café & Bar with panoramic views onto the snowhall, snowsport shop, rental centre and Snow Academy compliment the excitement in the snow to offer an unforgettable day out.

For Snowboarders, Snowplanet organises boarder nights, freestyle competitions with DJs and other cool events on a regular basis so check their website. The terrain park was designed by a team of professional snowboarders and comprises of a big jump and a number of rails and ledges. Snowplanet's rental department offers the latest Burton Snowboards and boots for those who don't have their own gear. Burton's "learn to ride" programme was developed by Burton and snowboard instructors from around the world to make learning to ride easy and fun.

Skiers of all levels can find a challenge at the 200 metre long slope with different levels of steepness to suit various skill levels. The steepest part at the top of the slope is over 25% steep (eg. 1 metre vertical for every four metres horizontal) and offers even advanced skiers an exciting thrill. The lower parts of the slope are less steep and provide beginning skiers with a suitable gradient to improve their techniques.

Please bear in mind that it is -5º Celsius inside the snowdome. Warm clothing and gloves are highly recommended for your own safety and wellbeing. We do rent out jackets and pants (limited stock only) and gloves and hats are available from the Snow Centre.

Snowplanet is the perfect destination for a one-day-vacation with the whole family! Imagine a complete snow resort at just 15 minutes drive north of the Auckland Harbour Bridge. For safety reasons only children aged 2 and over will be allowed into the snowhall. Children will enjoy playing and learning in the snow while parents attend a course, sharpen up their technique or enjoy the views in the Café.

This was the third or fourth time I've been to Snowplanet, & it has been a disappointing experience each time. We struggled through the arkward entrance doors & turnstyle with our skis & poles. The ticket scanner was still broken. This time the snow was a dirty light brown colour & had bits of grit & the odd bit of metal protruding, & the groomer was broken down so there was a mix of ungroomed snow & blue ice patches, with large steep bumps along the tow line (only one of the 2 tows was operating), which made it difficult for kids/learners. There seemed to be more jumps & obstacles than before, including the giant airbag & car jump (both closed) - fine for snowboarders who can't get to the mountain. But if you're a skier its a very short run & there is hardly any slope not occupied by barriers (around broken down groomer, across learner area), jumps etc. Add awful white noise music, bad artificial light, and no sun to keep you warm & the cafe seems like a great place to be. For skiers I'd recommend this place for first timers or perhaps a pre-season warm up if you need one. Hopefully someone will get round to doing a bit of maintenance & sieving/cleaning the snow sometime.
