Welcome to STONEY HORSE TREKS Gisborne's premier horse trekking adventure!
Our daily horseback adventures amble through pine forest and along native bush tracks, then over farmland on a gentle climb to Gisborne’s nearest summit to take in stunning high country views.
The treks start at the Stoney Horse base at the end of Dryden Street, off Valley Road, on the Gisborne city boundary, just 3km from the centre of the city. It follows a track up and over Te Kuri Farm, formerly owned by cartoonist Murray Ball, the creator of the world-famous Footrot Flats cartoon series. Much of Murray's inspiration came from activities and locations on Te Kuri Farm.
The highpoint is the arrival at the summit overlooking the city, which is also the destination of the popular Te Kuri Farm Walkway. From the high pastureland at the summit the views over Gisborne city, Poverty Bay out to Young Nicks Head and Mahia Peninsula, as well as the Poverty Bay plains, are simply stunning.
Treks depart 3 x each day in summer and 2 x each day during the winter months. The treks take 1.5 hours.
Summer treks: 9.30pm, 1.30pm and 5.30pm (Twilight Trek)
Winter treks: 10.30am & 1.30pm
We are just 3km from the centre of Gisborne City. No more than a 5 minute drive from anywhere in the city.
