Waiau Waterworks is a totally unique experience where you can delight in playing with our interactive contraptions, mostly made from commonplace bits and pieces. Try pumping water by bike power, listen to a water powered music box, and figure out how things like the giant water-powered clock works! Or just stroll around and take pleasure in Kay’s wonderful and often subtly humorous sculptures, and the peace and tranquility. There are playgrounds for kids up to the age of eighty and swimming holes in the river, all in a setting of gardens and lawns, trees, ponds and streams.

Waiau Waterworks have been going for thirteen years now, and add new things periodically. There are over forty items of interest where you look, play, photograph or generally get involved, as well as the beautiful garden/park atmosphere.

The cafe has insanely good, prize-winning, locally roasted and blended coffee, a shop with Kay’s pottery and sculpture for sale, also drinks, and ice creams. There is a Summer House with seats and tables and Gas powered BBQ’s for you to use free of charge, (3 outside, one under shelter,) and two toilet blocks. Plenty of parking space. You can buy food and drink at the cafe, or bring your own and picnic in the grounds.

Opens 9am, last visitors in by 5pm daily all year round. Extended till dusk during daylight saving (6th October till 16th March)
