Rotorua was the very first Zorb site on the planet! You may have seen it on television, when the contestants from "The Amazing Race" gave it a go, while in New Zealand. The Zorb is yet another great Kiwi invention for having fun.
So what is Zorbing?
This totally bizarre and fun experience involves people climbing inside a giant clear plastic sphere and rolling down a hill! The Zorb, which is 3.2m in diameter, is a massive cushion of air so there is no chance of injury! The downhill course at Rotorua is about 150m long and the Zorb can reach a speed of up to 30km/hr depending on conditions.
The experience is NOT like being in a tumble drier - the Zorb rotates once every 10 metres - so the revolving sensation is not stomach turning - although it is VERY bizarre.
On the safety side of things Zorb is an extreme sport and the team at Zorb Rotorua are very careful that all staff are well trained and that strict safety measures are followed. Customers can enjoy Harness or Hydro Zorb rides.
Harness Zorbing
In the dry harness Zorb you are safely harnessed inside the Zorb before being sent head over heels downhill. This gives you maximum G force as you tumble head over heels. There is a sensation of weightlessness at the top of the Zorb.
Hydro-Zorbing
The Zorbonaut is not harnessed in the Zorb but free with a bucket of water. In winter we use hot water giving you a sauna on wheels. This is great on your own (where you can attempt to stay on your feet for a free T shirt!), or with two or three people inside. Bring a change of clothes (our use the ones provided) a camera and a sense of humor. The site will provide towels plus warm or cool water as appropriate and a fun day for all.
Zylinder
Developed just for children who are too young or small to go into the big Zorbs. Nice and safe you can run around on the flat ground and with the opening at either end get in and out real easy. Its great way to tire the kids out before the drive home.
If you want to give the Zorb a go...
