Napier Prison Backpackers is the most unique backpackers in New Zealand. This is the only real prison in New Zealand where you are free to go again in the morning.

Accommodation includes converted cells (double rooms with loo and sink), comfortable dormitories, share rooms and original cells for the 'real experience'.

All beds are fully made up. Fully equipped kitchen, showers, laundry, tv room and dining room are shared by inmates. No smoking inside. Towels, washing powder and phone cards are available from the office.

Napier Prison is situated in sunny Hawkes Bay, on Napier's Bluff Hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the beautiful Centennial Gardens. Built on the location of the old quarry, inmates used to break out stone to build the walls that would keep them imprisoned. A few minutes walk to the centre of town and Marine Parade.
