The Old Countryhouse offers the best of both worlds: it's within 15 - 20 minutes walking distance (5 mins by bus) to the city centre, yet it is also a place to relax the escape the hustle and bustle with it's spacious landscaped gardens. Buses to local beaches and city leave from our doorstep. There is plenty of parking for those arriving with their own cars and bicycle parking within the grounds.

Take a walk along the garden path leading to two charming turn of the century villas offering rustic and colorful home-style accommodation with polished wooden floors & handmade native timber furniture. Both villas have been completely restored, are tastefully furnished and well equipped to please the traveller's need. Our friendly staff has good local knowledge and will help you plan your day.

Central heating to keep warm during those cold winter months, Doubles & Twins (with and without private bathrooms) & spacious Dorms - all with firm beds for a good nights sleep. The private rooms have fully made up beds. The Triple rooms have one double and one single bed.

Not sure what to say? Here's some ideas to get you started... helpful/friendly staff, clean and tidy, comfortable, location, cool features/facilities, lumpy bed?, value for money, would you stay again?

Came here for one night but just couldn't leave. The people, the hostel, the lovely dog all contributed to this place being one of those where you just don't want to leave. The facilities are great and although we initially thought that the location isn't as great because it's a little out of the city centre, we soon changed our mind because of the shops and the bus stops being just over the road and the walk into town is pleasant enough too. Most enjoyed the central heating (it was toasty warm - not a given in NZ hostels!), the good beds and the laid back and relaxing atmosphere. Can't wait to come back next year. Cheers for creating such a homely hostel for us travellers.
